Escape from 'Made in China'
A very interesting book just came out called "A Year Without 'Made in China' ". It's about one family's quest to go a year without purchasing anything that's made in China. Needless to say, in today's market economy where a lot of cheap goods here in America are "made in China", that's really difficult. I haven't read the book, but from this article, Sara Bongiomi and her family didn't appear to have done this as part of a solemn vow to buy "Made in USA" products (good luck finding those anywhere) but as more of a way to show how an average citizen is tied to the world's economy. As her and her family go a year without buying anything made in China, something as commonplace as shopping becomes a really difficult thing, since a lot of items in most any store are in China. A funny part in the article is how even American flags and related apparel are made in China too.
